The BCIM Economic Corridor Connectivity Forum was held in Fuzhou city , China
On the 10th Nov. 2013, the 12th Annual Meeting of the China Society of Logistics, titled “The BCIM Economic Corridor Connectivity Forum,” will be held at Fuzhou. The GMS Logistics Research Center, the Kunming Open Asian Transport and Logistics Research Institute, and the Kunming Open Asian Financial Cooperation Strategy Research Institute will jointly host the meeting. The Kunming Pan Asian Gold Exchange will help organize the event, and the Bangladesh Consulate General in Kunming and the China Society of Logistics will also provide support. _37__ people will take part in the meeting, including government officials of Bangladesh and China, specialists, scholars, and high-level managers of enterprises. The goal of the meeting is to achieve a consensus on the definition, geographic region, elements, and transport galleries of the corridor, as well as a comprehensive transport network plan. 1. The purpose of this meeting is to promote communication between specialists and entrepreneurs in the fields of transport, logistics and finance. It will also play an important role in providing China’s academics in the logistics field and logistics enterprises with an understanding of the BCIM Economic Corridor.
2. The interconnection and interworking construction of transport infrastructure is fundamental to the establishment of the BCIM Economic Corridor. It can play a decisive function for the establishment of the BCIM Economic Corridor through scientifically outlining the comprehensive transport network and achieve the interconnection in all fields: railway, highway, aviation, water way, pipeline, communication, and others. In order to promote governmental and non-governmental participation, the conference support the establishment of the BCIM international logistics association, which is organized by research institutes, logistics enterprises, financing institutes and industrial organizations of every country. The conference can also reflect the demands of enterprises, support consulting suggestions for governmental departments, build the international cooperation investment financing platform, and give substantive supports to major transportation programs and important node construction projects.
3. The establishment of interconnection and cooperation in international finance can support sustainable progress in building the BCIM Economic Corridor. Private departments and public and private cooperation must support the infrastructure construction programs. In order to receive private financial backing, the conference encourages the innovative financial products research conducted by the Bangladesh Dhaka Stock Exchange, the Chittagong Port Stock Exchange, and the Kunming Pan Asia Gold Exchange; encourages gold and gold futures trading denominated in RMB; and encourages exploration for a method to set up the economic corridor logistics index. The conference also welcomes the Calcutta Stock Exchange to take part in the cooperative program and also supports enterprises to invest in establishing exchanges in Myanmar. The priority of the conference is to facilitate the international financial cooperation necessary to establish the BCIM Economic Corridor and to make the gold and gold futures trading business between private enterprises to be the major program of BCIM Economic Corridor building.
4. The conference considers the BCIM Economic Corridor to be the economic link connecting the Ganges River, the Irrawaddy River and the Mekong River; it is the land bridge to connect the Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean; and it is the gathering place of China’s market, the South Asian market and the Southeast Asian market. Building the BCIM Economic Corridor meets common economic and social development interests of all countries in the sub-region. The aims of building the BCIM Economic Corridor is to promote sub-regional economic growth, improve peoples’ living standards, eliminate poverty, maintain regional peace, and turn the region into the new engine behind Asian economic growth.
5. The BCIM Economic Corridor is defined as a transportation corridor or integrated transport channel. The Corridor will reach the four major cities of Kunming, Mandalay, Dhaka, and Calcutta and serve as a link between the Southwestern regions of China’s Yunnan Province, Bangladesh, Myanmar, West Bengal and the Eastern and Northeaster regions of India. The purpose of the corridor is to promote regional, national, and local economic development.
